Easy Porch Roof Install Using SUNTUF® Panels
Imagine a perfect porch cover. Light, but sturdy. Lets sunshine in, but blocks UV rays and bad weather.
SUNTUF® panels are your answer. They're DIY-friendly, and here's how to use them.
Tools and Items You’ll Need:
- A saw
- Utility knife or snips, and something straight for cutting
- Silicone sealant (check it's okay with polycarbonate)
- Drill and 1/4″ drill bit
- Nut driver, screws, and special SUNTUF fasteners
- SUNTUF closure strips (horizontal & vertical)
Why SUNTUF is Great:
- Super strong but light
- Blocks almost all UV rays
- Stays clear, no yellowing
- Doesn't break easily, even with hail
- Lets up to 90% of light through
- Different colors for more or less shade
- Safe against fire
- Comes with a long warranty
Simple Installation Steps:
STEP 1: Plan how slanted (pitch) your roof should be. Cut and put up the rafters.
STEP 2: Fix the purlins (horizontal beams) over the rafters. In our example, we put them every two feet.
STEP 3: Place blocks between the purlins on the outside rafters. This is for supporting the SUNTUF vertical strips.
STEP 4: Put the horizontal strips at one end to support the first panel. Cut and put the vertical strips between the horizontal ones, but only on the outer rafters.
STEP 5: Place your first panel. Make small holes with the drill every other wave in the panel. Use the SUNTUF fasteners to attach it. Don’t screw too tight!
STEP 6: Use the sealant where the next panel will overlap the first one. Place, drill, and fasten the second panel.
STEP 7: Use more sealant for the next overlaps.
STEP 8: Continue with each panel until your porch roof is done. Remember to make holes and use the fasteners.
All Done! Now, you’ve got a new porch roof. Once you finish, show us your work, we'd love to see it!
